A Sense Of Place
Every year we choose a theme around which we select the novels we will read. This year’s theme is A Sense of Place. I will compile a long list of works of fiction where the geographic location is a major factor. So far I have compiled titles that encompass Africa, Japan, Italy, Ireland and there are many more exciting novels that will help us take a trip around the world in nine or so great works.
At the group’s first meeting we will discuss the long list, reduce it to a short list and schedule our reading for the next 9 months. We select books that are readily available and many can be borrowed from the library or purchased second hand.
The group meets at my house, which is a mile and a half outside Duns. Lifts are generally available and car sharing is encouraged. We have an upper limit of 12 members so we can be seated safely. If we are over subscribed we will consider a second group.
The group meets on the third Friday of every month, starting on 16 September, at 2.00pm until 4.30pm. I will provide refreshments, although contributions in the form of cake or biscuits are always welcome. I cannot bake to save my life.
