Latin and Classical Studies
Having survived the eruption of Vesuvius in 70AD, we are now moving on to life in Roman Britain. We will be using the Cambridge Latin Course book 2. This will provide a carefully paced approach to Latin grammar, simple translations and background information on Roman culture and civilisation. We will also focus on the local perspective with a possible visit to the Trimontium Museum in Melrose.
We might also explore authentic Latin prose and verse texts perhaps from Ovid’s Metamorphoses. We also plan to reflect on how Latin has contributed to the development of the English language.
Revisit the Latin of your school days or maybe it’s something you always wanted to do but never had the opportunity. Beginners, Improvers or just generally interested, come along and give it a try. Help keep Latin alive!
