A New Leader for the Local History Group

After a great first year, Betty Snow is stepping down from running the Local History Group and Derek Janes is taking over. Here are a few words from Derek about himself and his plans for the Group.

“I worked as a social history curator in museums for the best of 40 years, then had five years as the first manager at Gunsgreen House, in Eyemouth. This has led to me working towards a PhD on Smuggling in SE Scotland which I am due to finish soon.

I have a range of experience in all areas of local history, including oral history/reminiscence work. I will look to help and advise people wishing to undertake their own research and also to encourage reminiscence work on a range of topics – schooling, education, shopping, the pictures, what you wore – anything you like! I can share my own stories too. You don’t have to come from Duns either, just be up for exploring the past and having a good time.”
